Dr. Usui believed that as Reiki practitioners, we must first
take responsibility for our own health and well being first.
The same is true for those receiving Reiki energy.
To begin living a life that is balanced, centered and
positive, practice the Five Principles of Reiki on a daily
basis. You will begin to see enormous changes come about.
Dr. Usui's principles remind us to stay conscious and aware
in each moment of each day. This is good advice whether you
subscribe to the practice of Reiki or not. You may wish to
print this page and read it every day either upon waking up
in the morning or meditating on the principles each night
before sleep.
Here are some additional thoughts for you to reflect upon
for each Reiki principle:
Just For Today, Do Not Worry
This principle reminds us to let go of future events and
circumstances over which we have no control. All of us only
have the present moment we are living in, live it fully and
in the best way you know how. The past is gone and cannot be
changed. And we can never truly know everything that will
occur in the future.
Just For Today, Do Not Anger
Take the time to step back from any situation where you feel
yourself becoming angry. Remember that once hurtful words
are spoken, they can never be taken back. Many times angry
feelings actually come from a place of fear. Remind yourself
that anger is not your true nature and as such it will pass,
acknowledge it and then be willing to let it go forever.
Think about your feelings and at a later time, talk about
them from a foundation of love and honesty.
Honor Your Parents, Teachers and Elders
Everyone who comes into our lives is there for a reason.
Some may cross our paths for a short time, while others
remain with us for many years or a lifetime. It is important
to honor and respect everyone who comes into our lives
because they each have something valuable to share. The one
thing everyone wants in life is respect and acknowledgment.
If we show respect to each person we encounter every day, we
will receive respect and acknowledgment in return from
others. It is important to remember that being respectful
and kind to others, also includes showing the same thing to
ourselves. Remember to love and honor yourself as a
magnificent and unique person!

No matter what type of work you do or career path you have
chosen, do the very best that you can. There is no job too
small or unimportant that doesn't require 100% of your
attention and dedication. Treat every one of your coworkers
with respect, honesty, dignity and integrity.
Show Gratitude for Everything
There are times when life seems unfairly difficult or
painful. This principle reminds us to stop for a moment and
remember all the good things we have in our lives, no matter
how small. Every experience and every encounter throughout
our lives has significance in forming who we are. It is
important to pay attention to those moments and say thank
you. Living truly in the present moment releases us from the
pain of the past and the potential worries of the future.
The words: "Just for today" apply to all 5 of the Reiki
principles. The way we live "today" determines the
experiences that manifest in our future. Strive to live
every moment of every day from your highest level of
personal power and integrity.
Namaste,
Susan
